Three members of the Black Panthers, including leaders Saadia Marciano and Charlie Bitton, were released from jail today although they had been remanded to custody for five days after giving themselves up in Zion Square last week. The Panthers were wanted in connection with an illegal demonstration in Jerusalem two weeks ago that ended in a pitched battle with police. A police spokesman said they were also under suspicion of theft. He said there was no point keeping them in custody before their trial due to begin in a few days.
