Three Canadian Jews were named Officers of the Order of Canada in the pre-New Year Honors List. They are Charles Bronfman, of Montreal, a distillery executive, sportsman and community leader; Morris Shumiatcher, of Regina, Saskatchewan, a civil rights lawyer and recent member of the Canadian Jewish Congress’ committee on the Canadian Constitution; and Leon Major, a director of theatrical productions in Toronto.
