Netherlands detectives have arrested three more women in connection with the kidnapping of Anneke Beekman, 13-year-old Jewish war orphan who was hidden from the Dutch authorities by her Catholic fostermother, it was learned here today.
Two of the women are sisters of the woman who spirited the child away and the third is a woman known to have taken the girl from one convent to another when the police were known to be approaching the former.
Meanwhile, the Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities have jointly issued a “White Paper” setting forth the details of the Beekman case and that of Betty Melhado, a second 13-year-old child recently found in a Belgian convent. Public attention remains fixed on the case and on the activities of the police and Justice Ministry.
