A trial which has already lasted several days is now going on in Wroclaw, Poland, of Sergei Bobko, former commandant of the Nazi annihilation camp at Kolditchev, and two of his assistants. They are charged with torturing and Killing Jewish inmates of the camp and with participating in the mass execution of Jews in the ghetto of Nieswicz, Poland.
Many Jewish and non-Jewish witnesses–some of them tortured by the trio–have testified at the trial, which has attracted nationwide attention in Poland, according to Warsaw newspapers received here today. The defendants claim that they served in the camp as members of the White Russian police and acted on orders from Nazi officers. They deny that they participated in mass executions.
