Three Israeli soldiers were killed during heavy fighting between Israelis and Palestinians. Israeli helicopters fired rockets at a Palestinian Authority building in the West Bank town of Jericho after gunmen killed an Israeli soldier. Two other Israeli soldiers and at least two Palestinians were killed during heavy fighting at a village near the West Bank town of Bethlehem.
