Next year’s target figure for the three major organizations that raise money for Israel has been increased by 12 1/2 percent over this year’s goal by a decision today by the Jewish Agency’s Board of Governors. The Board decided to endorse treasurer Aryeh L. Dulzin’s proposal to set the Agency’s expenditures for next year at IL 2.71 billion ($645 million), compared with this year’s IL 2.4 billion ($572 million). The three major fundraising groups will adopt a target for next year of IL 4,725 billion ($1.125 billion), 12 1/2 percent over this year’s goal of IL 4.2 billion ($1 billion). Of this new sum, the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Bond Organization are to raise $450 million each, and the United Israel Appeal (Keren Hayesod) $225 million.
It was reported to the Board, however, that the Jewish Agency will have to reduce its proposed expenditures for this year from the planned $572 million to $387 million, despite preliminary estimates that the fundraising organizations would increase their income this year by one-third. The general chairman of the UJA, Edward Ginsberg of Cleveland, said that contacts between his organization and Keren Hayesod had been tightened and now include exchanges of know-how and common campaigns and programs. Ginsberg also announced that a delegation of 250 American contributors who yesterday ended a lightning tour of Israel had raised their gifts by 32 percent over last year.
