Three middle aged women and three men distributing handbills attacking the Queen of Roumania to the crowd about the Roumanian Synagogue during the Queen’s presence there yesterday were arrested and detained several hours. They were booked on charges of disorderly conduct and distributing handbills and were released on bonds of $50 each. The pamphlets spoke of “Queen Marie of Cotzefanesti,” and charged that workers are imprisoned and murdered in Roumania and spoke of “extravagant orgies” in the royal court The distributors made no attempts at violence. The women arrested were Mrs. Sophia Greenspoon. Mrs. Sarah P. Berlin and Mrs. Eleanor Sadowska.
The Chicago Post of the Jewish Veteraas of the Wars of the Republic was instructed by Morris J. Mendelsohn, Commander-in-Chief of the Jewish Veterans, to meet Queen Marie on her arrival in Chicago and to urge her intercede with the Roumanian government on behalf of the Jews in Roumania and to ask for a written expression of her attitude.
