The Karlsruhe jury court convicted today three former Einsatz Commando leaders of complicity in the murder of some 1,000 Jewish men, women and children in the Soviet Union during the 1941-1943 period. They were sentenced immediately.
Erich Erlinger, a leader in Hitler’s SS Elite Guard, was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for participation in the murder of 100 Jews. Former SS Lt. Reinhold Bruennert and former Captain Hans Schuhmacher, two of Gen. Erlinger’s aides, each received four years’ imprisonment. Schuhmacher, reportedly was an official of the West German Government a few years ago, serving as head of the Saarland office for combatting Communism and Nazism.
