Three Palestinians were killed when a car exploded Thursday in the West Bank city of Bethlehem. One of those who died in the blast was Atef Abayat, a member of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat’s Fatah faction who was sought by Israel for a shooting attack that killed an Israeli woman last month. Israel denied it was behind the explosion, saying the men most likely were preparing a car bomb to use against Israel, but it exploded prematurely.
