Three prominent American Jewish figures who sought a meeting with President Clinton to make a clemency appeal for Jonathan Pollard are instead being offered to make their case to Attorney General Janet Reno. As a result, Reno will postpone making her recommendations on the case of the former navy intelligence analyst who is serving a life sentence for spying for Israel. In a letter to Clinton, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, World Jewish Congress President Edgar Bronfman and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz asked the president to “consider the redeeming quality of mercy” before issuing a decision regarding Pollard.
