Huge crowds of fellow-workers yesterday followed the funeral cortege of Mendel Lubinski, the Jewish weaver who died in a hospital Wednesday of knife wounds received when he was attacked; with other Jewish workers, by a group of National Radical anti-Semites inflamed by an election speech given by a priest.
Lubinski’s funeral was an imposing demonstration of Polish Jewish workers. The procession, which passed through the main streets, was headed by a party of the weaver’s comrades in the Left Poale-Zion movement and by a delegation from the Polish Workers Bund and the various Trade Union.
All Jewish shops in the city were closed. Eulogies delivered at the grave of the dead weaver by representative of various labor groups emphasized the fact that “the spilled blood will serve to cement the ranks of the Jewish workers of Poland.”
The funeral made a tremendous impression upon the whole population.
