Aleksandr Tiemkin was arrested yesterday and his daughter, Marina, 13, was placed in a children’s institution, the National Conference for Soviet Jewry reported today. The NCSJ said Tiemkin was subsequently released but will be put on trial shortly on charges of insulting the militia by calling it “Fascist.” According to the NCSJ, Tiemkin was granted a visa to go to Israel but would have to leave his daughter behind.
The NCSJ also reported that a trial is imminent for Isaac Shkolnik, who was arrested last July on charges of industrial espionage and has been confined to a Vinniza prison since then. The NCSJ said Shkolnik’s wife was told to get a lawyer.
