Tight security measures were in effect here last night during the performance of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. More than 3500 persons attended the concert while several dozen Arab students from Michigan State University picketed outside the concert hall. The Arabs carried banners and chanted, “We are homeless Arabs.” There were no incidents and the orchestra members were not aware of the picket line. The security measures taken last night were similar to that Sunday night when the orchestra performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington. Similar measures will be taken when the orchestra performs in Detroit, Flint and Ann Arbor in Michigan and other cities during the national tour-celebrating Israel’s 25th anniversary.
United Hias Service reported today that 11 Jewish emigrants, constituting three family units from the Soviet Union, arrived at Kennedy Airport on a flight from Rome. They will be reunited with relatives in Miami, Chicago and Oklahoma City. The new arrivals included Mr. and Mrs. Leib Spector and their son Shulim from Lvov, who will be joined with another son, Moshe, in Miami after a separation of 25 years. Leib Spector was a renowned cantor in the USSR and Shulim was both an electrical engineer and a music teacher.
