Reading from the Book of Lamentations at Tisha B’Av services will be broadcast live from the Western Wall tomorrow for the first time in history. There will be no unified service on the occasion, but each community will be allowed to conduct prayers according to individual manner and custom.
(The Agudath Israel of America today cabled to Premier Levi Eshkol an appeal urging him to prevent the “conversion” of the Western Wall “from a holy religious site into a secular historic shrine.” The message urged Premier Eshkol to grant Israel’s rabbinate exclusive jurisdiction over the Western Wall.)
