Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia keenly “deplores” the tensions in the Middle East, but he has never specifically made an offer, as reported a few weeks ago, to act as mediator between Israel and the Arab states, according to Leo Mates, chairman of the Yugoslav delegation to the United Nations.
Marshal Tito is visiting Egypt, among other countries, on his tour to Asia. Mr. Mates told UN correspondents today that the visit was in response to an invitation similar to invitations the Marshal received from India and Burma.
