Public hearings on a bill providing exclusion of “alien Fascists and Communists” will open here Wednesday morning, it was announced today by the House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. The sessions will be held in the hearing rooms of the Old House Office Building.
Considerable interest is being displayed here in a bill that will receive a public hearing on April 9. Interest is particularly centered in a portion of the bill which provides for legalization of residences in the United States of certain classes of aliens who have lived here at least ten years. The bill also would guard against separation from their families of aliens of the non-criminal classes.
Through these public hearings, Representative Samuel Dickstein of New York, chairman of the immigration committee, hopes to obtain testimony in support of his drive to humanize immigration laws and to bar subversive and criminal elements from the country.
