Jewish circles are aroused by the open anti-Semitic avowal made for the first time in Palestine by State Attorney L. Elliot, during an arson trial in which a Georgian Jew, Turshvili, is the defendant.
“The Jews are necessarily arsonists,” State Attorney Elliott declared, adding that it is well known in London that Jews always insure their stores and set fire to them in order to collect insurance.
Chief Justice Frumkin stopped Elliot at this point and reserved judgment in the case.
The Jewish population and in particular the British Jewish colony feels directly insulted by this assertion. The latter plans to lodge a complaint with the government.
The Jewish Lawyers Association has demanded that Elliott issue a public apology, while the British Jewish colony will hold a protest meeting against him.
