A dinner to celebrate the seventieth birthday of Jacob Mark, leading personality in New York Orthodox Jewish circles and author of a Yiddish book, “Celebrities of Our Generation.” will be given on Thursday, November 22, at the Brooklyn Jewish Center. The dinner is sponsored by a large committee of which Dr. M. Robinson is chairman and S. Martikow secretary.
Mr. Mark was widely known in Eastern Europe as a pioneer in instituting courses in commercial education and bookkeeping by correspondence and for his communal activities in Libau where he lived, particularly emigrant aid work, during the emigration wave from Russia to the United States.
Many who now hold leading position in the business life of this country are among his fommer pupils. His book devoted to an intimate deseription of the ## and lay leaders of Russian Jewry preceding the World War notably the leading fablish, found wide distribution when it was published recently.
Memorial services will be held in Jewish Community Centers and Y. M. H. A.’s throughout the country on Armistice Day. Sunday. November 11, in memory of members who fell in the World War.
The Jewish Welfare Board, which functioned as the organization providing for the religious and social welfare of Jewish men in the army and navy service. has issued a bulletin which recommends the observance of Armistice Day as a Peace Day.
Governor Flem D. Sampson, of Kentucky, appointed Benjamin Berman, of Cincinnati, Ohio, an aid-de-camp on his staff with the rank of Colonel.
The honor was given to Mr. Berman, one of Hamilton County’s Republican nominces for the State Senate, in recognition of his activities in solving important problems of unemployment.
