These pictures were taken by the Harvard and Hebrew Universities’ Expedition in Palestine, of excavations, which they uncovered in Samaria. Most important of these, are reproductions of the Third Wall of Jerusalem, tombs of the kings, with their wealth of inscriptions, the palace of the ancient King Ahab, and many small coins, bearing th world, “Yehud” engraved upon them.
Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach, president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, believes that these discoveries “have advanced our knowledge of Jewish popular art, particularly in the field of decoration and architecture. The inscriptions have helped greatly in estasblishing fixed points for the dating of other specimens of this art.”
A report of the expedittion and its significance for archaeological work, will be given at the dinner by Dr. Albright. He will also announce plance for the Hebrew University’s expeditions during the coming season. Among the sponsors of this event are Professor james Breasted, Dr. Herbert Winlock, Dr. Robert B. Blake, Professor Carl H. Kraeling, Thomas W. Lamont, Governor Lehman and Felix M. Warburg.
