October 19th of this year will be the occasion for special functions in many of the lodges of the Independent Order B’nai Brith, with a national membership of close to 70,000, when Alfred M. Cohen, President of the Order, attains his seventieth birthday.

Following the resolution adopted at the annual convention of District No. 2 at Akron, Ohio, to honor Senator Cohen on this occasion, attention of the fraternal order’s membership was drawn to this date and preparations have already begun in various parts of the country to mark the date as a feature in the lodges’ activities.

Crowning a career of civic leadership, active interest in Jewish affairs and a long affiliation with the B’nai Brith, Senator Cohen was chosen President at the Grand Lodge meeting in 1925.

Alfred M. Cohen was born October 19, 1859 in Cincinnati. He is President of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew Union College, has served two terms in the Ohio State Senate and was twice Presidential elector.
