An amendment to the State Constitution permitting the use of absentee ballots when election days fall on a religious holiday will be put before Connecticut voters on Election Day, November 3, climaxing a drive by Jewish leaders throughout the state who had called for the change after a number of local elections had been held on Jewish holidays.
Twice within the past five years, a number of Jewish voters in Connecticut were disenfranchised when city elections were held on Jewish holidays. The proposed amendment would permit voting by absentee ballot on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkos, Passover and Shevuos.
