Prof. Robert Oppenheimer, top American atomic scientist and director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, has accepted appointment to the international board of governors of the Haifa Technical Institute, it was announced today by Joseph Wunsch, president of the American Technion Society.
Prof. Oppenheimer’s election to the board was unanimous. He has been a member of the United States Atomic Energy Commission and was director of the Los Alamos Science Laboratories where the atom bomb was developed.
In a letter to Prof. Oppenheimer, Gen. Yaacov Dori, president of the Technion, declared that the American scientist’s decision to join the Technion board was an honor for the Technion. “We are genuinely proud and deeply honored to be able to include you among the board members of our Institute, and I sincerely hope that we may soon have the opportunity to welcome you here,” Gen. Dori’s letter said.
