The Holy Torah was dragged out of a synagogue in Mannheim and burned in the public square by a crowd of Nazis, according to a report published today in the Jewish daily, the “Parizer Haint.” A young refugee from Mannheim is quoted in a description of the scene, which rivals the middle-age stories of the burning of the Torah.
According to the youth, the Nazi storm-troopers invaded the Ost Juden Synagogue of Mannheim, seized the scrolls of the Torah and the prayer books, hurled them into a heap on the public square, and burned them. Crowds of Nazis danced around the fire, singing songs of Jew-hatred. Jews, who had run to the synagogue in an effort to protect the holy books, were compelled to watch the fire.
