Torah Institute to Be Built in Memory of Rabbi David Cohen

A Torah Institute in memory of Rabbi David Cohen, “The Nazirite,” will be built here, it was announced by his son, Rabbi Shear Yashuv Cohen, on the first anniversary of his death. The Institute, to be called “Nazir David” will be built in the “Tora Ve-Hinuch” quarter planned for observant Jewish families in Jerusalem’s Talpiot suburb.

Rabbi David Cohen, who died last Aug., was one of the foremost disciples of Rabbi Kook, the first Chief Rabbi in Palestine. He was a Nazarite and never cut his hair nor drank wine nor spirits. He also abstained from eating meat for over 50 years. The memorial service was attended by Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren and other dignitaries.
