Torchlight parades in cities, towns and villages across Israel ushered in the Chanukah festival last night. Children in school and scout formations marched, sang and danced as Israel welcomed the festival of lights.
In this city, Mayor Gershon Agron presided over an impressive public ceremony attended by thousands of Jerusalemites and visitors. On Mt. Scopus, inside the Jordan lines, the guard units on the Hebrew University campus and Hadassah Hospital grounds, a giant candelabra was lighted, spreading its light over no-man’s land between Israel and its Arab neighbor.
