Sir Herbert Samuel, noted English statesman and former High Commissioner in Palestine, is expected to be the chief speaker at a mass meeting to initiate a drive for twenty thousand dollars for the relief of German Jews. The meeting will be held at the Royal York Hotel on September 17.
Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath, who recently returned from a tour of Germany, and Rabbi Sachs, will also speak. All classes of the Jewish community here are united in the relief drive which is expected to go ovr the top.
Latre there will be a united drive for the Joint Distribution Committee, the Jewish Agency for Palestine, the HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid and Sheltering Society) and the ORT, society for the promotion of trades and agriculture among the Jews of Eastern Europe.
During his visit in Toronto, Sir Herbert will endeavor to raise funds for the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
