One hundred and twenty-three Jewish tourists whom authorities had refused to allow to remain here over the Passover holidays were yesterday permitted to land for a four-day period, after their relatives at Hailfa had posted one hundred pounds as a guarantee for each. They will be confined for the four-day period in police barracks.
Following their arrival on the Roumanian steamer Aridail and the refusal of permission to land they had declared a hunger-strike. The offer of a financial guarantee by the tourists’ relatives permanently resident in Haifa had also been rejected by the Government, while representations made by Chief Rabbi Kook and the Jewish Agency were equally fruitless at the time.
