A record of giving believed to be unparalleled among Jewish communities of the United States was registered here this week as Fairmont provided a 100 per cent response in a campaign on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal, which is seeking to raise $3,250,000 nationally for relief and rehabilitation of Jews in Germany.
Every Jewish family in this city, whose total Jewish population is 140, made a contribution to the campaign, according to a report issued by Harry N. Pollock and Bert S. Leopold, officers of the drive.
It is believed that Fairmont’s ratio of gifts represents the largest per capita of self-taxation on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal which has yet been recorded.
The Appeal effort here was sponsored by the local lodge of the B’nai B’rith.
