The abandonment by Henry Ford of the anti-Semitic campaign carried on by his “Dearborn Independent” for six years was traced to the influence of his son, Edsel, in Detroit circles which claimed to be well informed on the subject.
As a proof substantiating this assertion, the fact was quoted that as far back as a year ago negotiations were in progress between Edsel Ford and a prominent Detroit Zionist for securing the cooperation of the Ford fortune in the work carried on by the Zionists to rehabilitate Palestine as the Jewish national home.
It was disclosed today that the investment of $1,000,000 in Palestine mortgage securities was negotiated by Edsel Ford a year ago with spokesmen of Zionist investment corporations. Morris Freedberg, a prominent Detroit Zionist, was said to have been responsible for these negotiations which, although viewed favorably by Edsel Ford, did not culminate due to criticism expressed in certain Zionist quarters of the enlistment of Ford’s cooperation in the Palestine rebuilding work.
This criticism was based on the fact that an avowed enemy of the Jews, as Henry Ford was then considered, could not be permitted to cooperate with Zionists in the rebuilding of Palestine.
