HIAS, the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society, will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary this afternoon (Sunday) at the Hotel Astor. The celebration coincides with the society’s annual meeting.
Reports tracing the half century of its work, from small beginnings until today it is an institution operating on a world-wide basis, will be made. Abraham Herman, president, will tell the story of HIAS from the inception to the present in his message.
One of the principal speakers will be Daniel W. MacCormack, Commissioner General of Immigration and Naturalization.
Messages have been received from numerous notables upon the occasion of the jubilee, including one from Governor Lehman.
In connection with the celebration, HIAS is issuing a Golden Anniversary Book. The society has branches throughout the United States and in twenty-seven foreign countries.
