Trade between the United States and Israel, which reached an all-time high in 1960, increased by more than 16 percent in the first half of 1951 compared with the same period last year, the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported today.
Data from official United States statistics showed that two-way trade in the first six months of this year totaled $84,524,400. The figure for the first six months of 1960 was $72,773,600.
Total United States exports to Israel in the first six months of this year was $67,888,400, compared with $60,158,300 in the same period last year. United States imports from Israel totaled $16,636,000 in the first six months of 1961, compared with $12,615,300 in the same period in 1960.
The Chamber reported that the marked increase in United States exports of domestic merchandise to Israel was due primarily to the delivery during last May and June of two Boeing 707 Jet airplanes to El Al Israel Airlines for more than $8,000,000. The $4,000,000 Jump in Israeli exports to the United States was due mainly to a $3,682,000 rise in the export of cut and polished diamonds.
