The Swedish Federation of Trade Unions and the Swedish Co-operative Union announced today that they would participate in the Swedish Israel Relief Campaign launched here by a non-Jewish group headed by Waldemar Svensson, a Liberal member of Parliament. Both organizations said they would make substantial contributions to the campaign which seeks to raise one million crowns (about $193,000) for the establishment of a new settlement in the Negev to be known as Kfar Shvedia.
Local committees to support this campaign have been organized in most cities of Sweden and local Church groups have taken a prominent part in their activities.
Enthusiastic reports on Israel are being prominently featured in the Swedish press following the return to Stockholm of the parliamentary mission of eight from a visit to the Jewish State. Prof. Ake Holmback, leader of the delegation and vice-rector of Uppsala University, said here that “it was a wonderful experience to see the reborn Jewish State, its eternal capital, Jerusalem, and modern Haifa, all full of dynamic activity.”
