A traditional Chanukah observance started in Israel today as runners carried torches from the gravesite of the Maccabees at Modin to Jerusalem and to the northern and southern regions of Israel. Runners, members of the Maccabee Sports Organization, brought a torch to the West Wall in Old Jerusalem where it was received by Mayor Teddy Kollek. It was then taken to the home of President Zalman Shazar. Another torch was brought to the grave of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, Israel’s first President.
