Israel, and the Jewish communities in France and Italy, desperately need trained social workers and public health technicians, it was reported today by Mrs. Hortense U. Goldstone, head of the National Council of Jewish Women’s overseas service department, who returned from a six-week inspection tour of the organization’s overseas activities.
The Council representative, who interviewed numerous applicants for Council scholarships, as well as officials in the three countries, said continuing needs in France and Italy–and the acute shortages in Israel–had emphasized the value of the organization’s service programs in those lands. “In Israel, the Minister of Education stressed the need for nursery school teachers; the Minister of Welfare, the need for social workers; the Ministry of Health, the need for public health nurses,” Mrs. Goldstone said.
