A three-day annual training conference for full-time Jewish military chaplains on duty in the United States, opened here today. It was reported to the conference that Chaplain Shimon Paskow, Jewish chaplain at Ft. Carson, Colorado, who was tested in Yiddish proficiency at the Carson Adjutant General Testing Center, scored the highest of anyone ever tested at the Center.
Chaplain Paskow scored 54 of the 60 points in vocal and 51 of the 60 points in reading in the tests given to all personnel at Fort Carson who claim a language proficiency other than English. Languages tested at Carson now range from Albanian to Yiddish. In addition to English and Yiddish, Chaplain Paskow also has a fine command of Hebrew which he teaches in special classes for Jewish servicemen at Ft. Carson.
