A European campaign to promote tolerance ended recently with the convergence of six “European Youth Trains” in Strasbourg, France.
Earlier this month, the Council of Europe, which is headquartered in Strasbourg, launched a campaign to combat racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism.
The Council of Europe is an assembly of European parliamentary democracies.
Thousands of youths traveled across Europe on the trains, which left from various capital cities, to promote the campaign, called “All Different, All Equals.”
Each train was assigned a theme, such as tolerance, solidarity or choice.
Officials of the European Jewish Congress headed the train that left from Paris.
Two exhibitions were shown aboard the Paris train: “The Time of the Roundups,” prepared by the Paris-based Center of Contemporary Jewish Archives, and “Racism Through the Microscope,” prepared by the French League for Permanent Education and the Paris Museum of Science and Industry.
