Emergency regulations aiming to prevent disturbances during the general elections in Transjordan were issued today at Amman. The Arab Legion, Transjordan’s military force, simultaneously received an order to stand by for any possible emergency tomorrow during the elections, the result of which will be of decisive importance to the peace talks which have been conducted between Israel and Transjordan for some time.
The emergency regulations provide that anyone carrying a dagger, or even a stick, on election day will be sentenced to six months imprisonment and will be fined 500 pounds. It is understood that Pasha el Mufti, the present Transjordan Minister of Interior, who favors direct peace negotiations with Israel, will be appointed Premier after the general elections are over. He enjoys the full confidence of King Abdullah.
