Karl Frantz, commander of the guards at the Treblinka death camp, and 13 lower rank SS men, will go on trial here soon on charges of having tortured and gassed some 700, 000 Jews in the camp.
The 14 defendants belonged to a special command of the Gestapo. A total of 60 files of evidence have been assembled by the prosecution for the trial, the date of which will be announced shortly; Witnesses from all parts of the world, including survivors of the camp, will testify. The trial is expected to last for about six months,
