Polish security police have reinforced their surveillance of former Soviet spy chief Leopold Trepper, his son, Michael Brodje, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today. Brodje said Polish security agents have rented two apartments in his father’s building one next to and one just below Trepper’s apartment. The building is located at 29 Jerozolimskie Alle (Jerusalem Blvd.) in Warsaw.

Brodje said his father is followed “day and night” by security agents and that well-wishers have stopped visiting his father because of the intensive surveillance. Trepper, who contacted his son by phone in Copenhagen, said he had sent a letter of protest to the Polish Interior Ministry. In it, he suggested the government “save the state’s money” by simply sending him to prison.
