The trial of Andrei Benik, former member of the Nazi Hlinka Guard in Slovakia, on charges of having collaborated with the Nazis and having robbed, tortured and killed Jews was today postponed by a Jerusalem magistrate until September 25. Benik, who came to Israel last year with his Jewish wife, is being tried under the recently enacted Israel law providing punishment for any Israel resident proven to have been a Nazi or Nazi collaborator.
Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, Elsa Trunk, a 26-year-old girl who served under the Nazis as an auxiliary guard in the Oswiecim extermination camp in Poland, went on trial this week-end on charges of mistreating Jewish inmates at Oswiecim. She is the third person to be tried under the new law. She was recognized by settlers in Kfar Saba, in the Sharon district, who came here from Germany.
