Professor Kurt Sitte, head of the physics department at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, at Haifa, went on trial in the Haifa District Court today on charges of “passing secret information to a foreign agent.”
Details of the charges against Dr. Sitte were classified as secret. But it is known that the indictment against the scholar contains seven counts, listing alleged violations of security regulations and calling, upon conviction, for a maximum penalty of possible life imprisonment.
Dr. Sitte, who was educated at the University of Prague, in Czechoslovakia, cane to this country in 1954. He is a member of the Physics Association of London, and of the New York Academy of Science.
