President Truman announced at a press conference today that he will not attend the dinner; scheduled to he held in New York April 23 in honor of Israeli President Chaim Weiznann.
The President explained that the urgency of his work and his crowded schedule with Congress now in session compel him to cancel his plans to attend. He also blamed impending “international decisions” for his action. The Weizmann dinner is being tendered by the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovoth.
Earlier, President Truman asserted that he was “still hopeful that we can get the civil rights program, through” during the present Congressional session.
