President Truman today extended congratulations to Dr. Israel Goldstein, spiritual leader of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, who will complete 30 years in the synagogue’s pulpit tomorrow. The congregation will mark the occasion at a special anniversary service.
“I know the celebration will bring you many happy memories of your long and faithful service,” President Truman’s letter said. “May I express the hope that you will long be spared in health and strength to continue your activities in behalf of God and country.”
Israeli envoy to the U.S. Eliahu Epstein and Dr. Louis Finkelstein, president of the Jewish Theological Seminary, will be the guest speakers at tomorrow’s special service. The congregation will also bid Dr. Goldstein farewell for a year, since he has been granted a sabbatical leave of absence during which he will carry on his duties as Jewish Agency treasurer in Jerusalem.
