Harry S. Truman, former President of the United States, has some very definite ideas about possible solution of the Middle East problem and is believed to have discussed these ideas here today when he visited United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold.
Mr. Truman was with Mr. Hammarskjold 20 minutes and the visit was called officially a courtesy call. However, immediately after seeing Mr. Hammarskjold, the former President met with reporters. He indicated clearly that the Middle East problem was very close to his heart.
Asked specifically whether he had any ideas for a new approach to Middle East problems through the United Nations, Mr. Truman said, “I would like to answer that question but I no longer determine policy. The President of the United States does that.”
