Hearings on the McCarran-Walter Act and other aspects of immigration policy will be opened by President Truman’s Commission on Immigration and Naturalization Tuesday, September 30, at the Federal Court House in New York City.
Among those expected to testify are Sen. Herbert H. Lehman; Rep. Emanuel Celler; and Edward Corsi, New York State Commissioner of Labor. The New York hearing is one of a series which the Commission will hold in eleven cities from coast to coast for the purpose of gathering public views as to whether the McCarran-Walter Act should be modified, and, if so, how. The Commission will report its findings to President Truman as a basis for possible further legislative recommendations.
