President Truman may soon appoint a U.S. mission composed of agricultural, commercial, industrial and scientific experts to go to Israel to aid in the economic development of the Jewish state, Rep. Emanuel Celler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, revealed here yesterday at a Histadrut meting.
“There is in the offing the appointment by President Truman of a mission to go to Israel as a gesture of friendship and moral support,” Celler declared. “Alsounder our immigration code, as a further gesture of good will, President Truman will soon announce an immigration quota for Israelis desiring to enter the United States.” He also predicted that a U.S-Israel treaty still in the planning stage will follow “in due course” and will include “friendship, commerce and navigation” between the two countries.
