President Truman reiterated today, in a message to the 60th annual convention of the Order Brith Abraham meeting here, that America must do its part to solve the problem of the displaced persons by agreeing to admit some of them to this country. At the same time, the president expressed his “unwavering determination to do everything in my power to reach a just solution in Palestine.
The convention, which is being attended by 800 delegates, approved a statement on Palestine, which called on the U.N. to order unrestricted immigration into that country pending a final decision on its status; appealed to the U.S. Government “not (to) betray the American policy and tradition” in favor of a Jewish Commonwealth; and condemned Britain’s “military regime and treacherous policy in Palestine.”
The principal speakers at the week-end sessions were Grand Master Harold O.N. Frankel, Grand Secretary Abraham H. Hollander and Mayor Altman of Atlantic City. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise will address the convention tomorrow morning.
