President Truman today made known in his budget message to the Congress that aid to Israel will be provided during the fiscal year of 1953. The exact amount of allocations to individual countries were not made known although the estimated amount of mutual security spending in 1953 was listed as $7,023,000,000, representing an increase over the current fiscal year.
The President said in his message: “This budget provides funds for our contributions for the second year of the three-year program for reintegration of Arab refugees, and other funds for assistance to the Arab States, Iran, and Israel.”
Elsewhere in the message, he said: “In the Middle East, events during the past year have emphasized the urgency of achieving stability and more adequate defenses. Much can be accomplished by programs of technical assistance to deal with basic problems of low productivity which underlie much of the region’s difficulties.”
