United Nations Secretary-General Trygve Lie today suggested that the creation of the Middle East economic survey group by the U.N. Conciliation Commission on Palestine is entirely in line with the United Nations’ programs for aid to underdeveloped areas.

Mr. Lie made his statement at his weekly press conference. He said the economic mission will have some of the best experts in the world working with it. He added that their mission was in line with his recommendations of his annual report to the General Assembly urging priority consideration for the Middle East in economic aid programs.

Mr. Lie also announced appointment of Dillon S. Myer, former director of the War Relocation Authority and presently director of the Inter-American Institute, as general consultant to the survey group, particularly with respect to refugee problems. John Reedman was named principal secretary.
