Former Ambassador Yaacov Tsur, world chairman of the Jewish National Fund, said here today that “the policies of the Soviet Government tend to make all Jewish national personality disappear.”
Mr. Tsur said here that in the USSR there “is not one Jewish school and very few synagogues left,” including two small ones in Moscow for nearly 500,000 Jews. He said that, while the culture of other national minorities in the Soviet Union was encouraging by authorities, nothing was done for Jewish culture. He added that certain careers, such as the military and diplomatic service, were closed to Jews.
